Casual Dating in Coquitlam
Coquitlam is the largest of the Tri-Cities and it's developed into a real urban centre with the Evergreen SkyTrain extension connecting it to the rest of Metro Vancouver. The city has a massive Asian population which brings cultural diversity to the dating scene. Coquitlam Centre area serves as the commercial hub but the real growth is up on Burke Mountain where thousands of new homes are being built for young professionals and families priced out of Vancouver proper. Douglas College brings in students from across the region who keep the energy young and the population is genuinely diverse in every sense.
Burke Mountain is the hot new area with brand new developments climbing up the hillside. Houses up there have views and space and privacy that you can't get in the older flat parts of the city. The Westwood Plateau area is slightly older but still relatively new with a mix of townhouses and single family homes. Maillardville is the historic French-Canadian neighbourhood that's gentrified but still has character and a diverse population. Ranch Park borders Port Coquitlam and draws from both communities. The SkyTrain corridor along North Road and Pinetree Way has brought condo density and a younger population to central Coquitlam.
The Tri-Cities nightlife is centred around a few key spots but most people here prefer to meet at someone's place rather than going out. The suburban layout means everyone drives and parking is easy unlike downtown Vancouver. Eagle Ridge up on the hill has older established homes with families whose kids have grown up and parents rediscovering themselves. Harbour Chines near the water has that quiet residential energy. The cultural mix means you encounter people from many backgrounds with different attitudes toward casual connections, and the anonymity of a large suburban city means encounters stay private.
Leolist works well in Coquitlam because it's Metro Vancouver's most accessible suburb. The SkyTrain means you can pull from the entire lower mainland but the local population is large enough on its own. People have space to host and the mountain backdrop makes for nice evening encounters. Check our Vancouver area guide for the broader scene.
